Quality Assurance for the Memorial Industry
NAMM is a City & Guilds Assured Training Provider. To maintain this status, an annual audit and inspection of training procedures, and documentation are required. NAMM is one of the few City & Guilds Assured training providers permitted to issue its own certificates. Additionally, all candidates who successfully complete a NAMM City & Guilds Assured training course are provided with City & Guilds Assured digital credentials.
NAMM trainers and assessors must meet City & Guilds Assured criteria to train and assess candidates.
From the early days, NAMM organised specialised seminars for members. In 1986, it became the managing agent for a City & Guilds validated training course devised by its Technical and Training Committee in conjunction with Bath College. This move resulted in the Department of Employment conferring upon it the status of ‘Approved Training Organization.’ during that time.
NAMM has since maintained a close working relationship with City & Guilds, jointly developing bespoke meaningful training and qualifications aimed at raising standards and providing assurances through the validation of essential trade skills and knowledge.
In 2009, NAMM Head Office achieved City & Guilds NPTC Centre status. To achieve this status all NAMM assessors had to be NPTC qualified. In 2018 as a result of some restructuring by City & Guilds NAMM were moved from City & Guilds NPTC to the City & Guilds Assured portfolio. The same high standards of training and assessment being maintained with continual internal IQA observations and annual external evaluation procedures ensures the application and content of NAMM City & Guilds Assured training and assessing continually meet the required standard.
NAMM has since gained further recognition of excellence through their City & Guilds Assured Training Provider status raising the quality assurance bar yet again. NAMM is currently the only Trade Association for memorial masons in the UK and provides memorial industry-based City & Guilds Assured training courses and assessments backed up by established expert trade knowledge. NAMM is the UK industries founding organisation establishing the memorial masons National Codes of Working Practice which have also been adopted by British Standards Institute in BS8415.
Achieving NAMM City & Guilds Assured awards in memorial masonry core skills, such as the FASM and at least one of the PESM (Produce and Embellish Standard Memorials) courses, will enable the awarding of the NAMM Diploma. The NAMM Diploma is not a City & Guilds Assured award but is NAMMs own award in recognition of the individual achieving valid recognition in attaining the skills and knowledge commensurate with the trade term ” Memorial Mason” and affirms the holder as a craft memorial mason in line with the National Occupational Standards definition for that occupation.
NAMM is determined to support the craft and preserve and promote the skills that define the memorial mason. These skill-based training units will be assessed on-site, enabling the pace of learning and the final assessment to be geared to individual candidates’ ability, circumstances, and requirements.
NAMM’s training programs are by City & Guilds Assured, the experts in learning excellence and quality.
The Assured Service from City & Guilds provides external validation for NAMM’s specialised training programs.
To maintain this recognition, Assured Service expert learning and development consultants continually assess processes, systems, and procedures against City & Guilds’ exacting quality Assured Benchmark standards. This ensures that NAMM candidates have the confidence and reassurance that NAMM’s training meets best practice standards, allowing them to stand out from the crowd.
All learners who successfully complete NAMM’s City & Guilds Assured Training Programme/s are issued a NAMM City & Guilds Assured award and Digital Credential, which outlines course content-description/metadata embedded into their personal online digital credential and emailed directly to the participant.
