Quality Assurance for the Memorial Industry

Ground Anchor Testing

NAMM has undertaken ground anchor testing in accordance with the latest BS8415-2018 guidance.

It should be noted that there is no historical evidence of any injuries occurring from correctly installed NAMM Accredited ground anchors since their first introduction.

The re-testing of ground anchors to the new standard has been required mainly due to concerted and unfounded scaremongering, done at considerable expense, time, and effort for both NAMM and the anchor manufacturers. The recent testing confirms that performance meets BS8415-2018 requirements and provides trusted third-party assurance for Burial Authorities, memorial fixers, and the general public.

In accordance with BS8415-2018, the test pit contained medium/course sand and fine gravel (tamped) and adheres to the specifications laid down in BS5930, fully conforming with BS8415-2018 guidance, which stipulates a maximum particle size of 6mm. Note: BS5930-2015 classifies sand particle size of 2mm to 6mm as fine gravel.

The test pit media consisted of 25% 2mm to 6mm clean graded gravel and 75% 0.2mm to 4mm clean graded sharp sand, conforming to BS EN 1260 grading specifications.

Test pit density was confirmed and recorded using the PSP (Perth Sand Penetrometer) in compliance with BS8415-2018.
